Cooking with the Little Ones: Fun and Easy Recipes for the Whole Family

I'm fairly certain that most of us have witnessed or experienced at least part of the hit comedy situation "Married with Children", which dominated television for a while and is still syndicated in many parts of the world. There are some remarkable insights that are presented by this often dysfunctional family, along with a few pearls that can be incorporated into your daily lives. The same principle applies to cooking with children in mind.

This world is devoid of anything that can teach you about yourself or your children's perspective of you, as easily as cooking with your children. Of course, this is an ideal opportunity for many of us to let our hair down and have fun in the kitchen. Unfortunately, if you're similar to me, this is a difficult endeavor to say the least. I have a tendency to be a control freak in the kitchen. It's my territory or sphere of influence, essentially. This is why it's difficult for me to give up any control and hand over the reins to my children all together.

Conversely, I understand that they're acquiring crucial abilities that they genuinely need to comprehend in order to live. This understanding, however, doesn't make it any easier when I scrape tomato sauce out of places I would never have thought to find on my own. If you're considering cooking with children, you must ensure you have the necessary ingredients before beginning. You definitely don't want to be caught without that cup of patience, you will need to have, nor do you want to need to travel to the local grocery store to retrieve the missing ingredients during a run.

Another popular rule of thumb when it comes to cooking with children is the KISS rule. Keep it simple, silly. This rule will benefit you more than you can imagine. Initially, the majority of children have limited attention spans. While they want to learn and assist their mother, they also don't want to have enough time to become bored with the small things. Utilize simple recipes when cooking with children, this will increase your chances of success more than overly complex or ingredient-heavy recipes.

As if this wasn't already enough to absorb another vital rule when it comes to cooking with children is to be clean as you go as much as possible. Trust me with this. While there is a portion of you that wishes to postpone the task of cleaning up the mess that is made until later or wait until the end and only clean once, this gives the opportunity for the mess to accumulate and to increase. Regularly clean throughout the procedure in order to have the greatest possible results. You should involve your children in the cleaning process as well. While it may be more practical to instruct yourself, it's far more important to teach them the fundamentals of cleaning as you go. Remember that one day they are likely to invade your kitchen while you're not present.

Cooking with children can be a fun day if you can let go of the power that you often have over the kitchen. Offer up the keys to your kingdom for a day of fun and frolic with your children among the flour, sugar, and wonderful memories.
